Robert L. Sinclair

Robert L. Sinclair, 92, of Mount Airy, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Lorien Life Center in Mount Airy.

Born July 30, 1917, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Tolson Daugherty. He was the husband of Alma Adele Lane Sinclair, his wife of 64 years.

He served in the Army as a 1st Sgt. in World War II with the 175th Infantry, 29th Infantry Division; landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day; and was awarded the Bronze Star, twice, and a Purple Heart. He also retired as a master chief from the Naval Reserves after 30 years of service.

He was a retired postal inspector with the U. S. Postal Service after 32 years service. He was a member of the Doric Lodge, AF&AM and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory. He enjoyed boating and camping.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Robert L. II and Ruth Sinclair, of Mount Airy; and grandchildren Jacob Sinclair, of Mount Airy, and Alison Sefton and husband Steve, of Minneapolis.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
