| April 13, 2007 Deputy Chief—Field Operations Positions Eliminated. Divisions Realigned | |||||||||
| We have received information regarding a recently announced realignment of
Inspection Service field operations, and we thought our members would like to
know the particulars. This realignment was reportedly done for the purpose of
bringing the geographic structure of the Inspection Service into conformity
with the geographic structure of the USPS. As a result, all USPS area managers
will now have a single point of I.S. contact for their respective geographic areas. Another effect of this realignment is the elimination of the three Deputy Chief Inspector, Field Operations positions that previously supported the eastern, western and southern portions of the nation. In addition, nine of the 18 Inspector in Charge positions have been designated "Lead" INC positions, each of which will report directly to the Chief Inspector. The Lead INC Divisions are Capital Metro (DC), Eastern (Pittsburgh), Great Lakes (Chicago), New York Metro (NYC), Northeast (Boston), Pacific (San Francisco), Southeast (Miami), Southwest (Ft. Worth), and Western (Denver). The Inspectors in Charge of the remaining nine field divisions will report to their designated Lead INC. Those Divisions are Charlotte, Philadelphia, Detroit, St. Louis, Newark, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston and Seattle. M.W. “Mike” Ryan President

| April 19, 2006 NARPI-Net undergoes another change. | |||||||||
| For a little over a month we have been testing the sending of NARPI-Net
messages directly to our 700+ members with email addresses. That’s a
little over 50% of our membership. In the past, NARPI-Net messages were
sent to members through a distribution tree. The messages were sent to
the chapters and they sent them on to the members. While this method
worked, the overall performance was often slow when vacations, illness,
etc. came into the picture. By sending the messages direct to the members
we will ensure that all members receive the messages without having to
locate a local coordinator or being a chapter member. The recent tests have shown this method to be reliable and we are now discontinuing the use of the distribution tree. You can determine whether you have missed any of our messages by checking the NARPI-Net Msg Log on our website. This page will have a list of the NARPI-Net messages and the date they were sent. It does not have the text of the messages as that is reserved for NARPI members only.
| April 19, 2006 Inspection Service Loses Internal Theft and Workman's Comp to the OIG | |||||||||
| On March 10, 2006, the Postmaster General and the Board of Governors announced the transfer of investigative responsibilities for Internal Crimes and employee related Workman’s Compensation to The Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Positions for the OIG will come from cuts in the USPIS staffing. Procedures have been announced on how Postal Inspectors may apply for the OIG positions. This has been followed by several messages from the Chief Postal Inspector giving details on how this will be implemented. The messages have been forwarded to all NARPI members that have provided us with email addresses. | |||||||||
